Andrea Pellegrino and Andrea Vavassori had a memorable debut as a doubles team, winning the Movistar Chile Open title in dramatic fashion.
In a tightly contested final against Thiago Seyboth Wild and Matias Soto, the Italians were pushed to the limit and had to save a match point at 9/10 in the Match Tie-break before eventually prevailing 6-4, 3-6, 12-10.
The victory was particularly special for Vavassori, who claimed his second tour-level title alongside one of his closest friends.
Pellegrino and Vavassori’s win was hard-fought, with both sets being decided by a single break of serve. In the Match Tie-break, they found themselves 0/3 down before mounting a comeback to take an 8/5 lead.
They eventually sealed victory on their second match point, much to the delight of the Italian pair. Vavassori expressed his joy at winning with his friend, whom he described as a brother, and praised the hard work they had put in with their coach and his father over the past three months.
