Andy Murray, the former British world number one, won his seventh deciding set of the season to secure a place in the second round of the Indian Wells tournament.
Murray defeated Tomas Etcheverry in a hard-fought match that lasted three hours and 12 minutes, with the final score reading 6-7 (5-7) 6-1 6-4. Murray had no fewer than 20 break points, but the 23-year-old Argentine was able to save 16 of them.
Despite being behind in the first set tie-break, Murray felt that he was in control of the match for most of the time. He had multiple opportunities to take the lead but was unable to capitalize on them.
However, Murray was pleased with his performance, saying that he made some poor decisions at times but managed to turn things around and win the match. He will now face Spain’s world number 17, Pablo Carreno Busta, in the second round on Saturday.
Murray’s victory at Indian Wells is a promising sign that he is continuing to regain his form after struggling with injuries in recent years.
