Nick Kyrgios has unfortunately pulled out of the 2024 French Open due to a recurring knee injury that also prevented him from participating in the Australian Open earlier this year.
After undergoing surgery in January and missing all three ATP 1000 clay-court events leading up to the tournament, Kyrgios’ agent, Daniel Horsfall, expressed efforts to get him ready for competition. However, it was later confirmed that Kyrgios had withdrawn from the entry list, dashing hopes of his presence at Roland Garros.
Despite a challenging relationship with clay throughout his career, many had anticipated Kyrgios’ participation in the French Open this year, as he had previously made a commitment to play the tournament for his girlfriend. During an appearance in Houston last year, Kyrgios stated, “Next year I am going to go to Paris.
I’m announcing that now I’m going to the French Open. I haven’t played that in four years, so I’ll be back next year. My girlfriend just wants to see Paris. I mean, I’ll play the French Open as well.”
He reaffirmed his plans during December’s Diriyah Tennis Cup. However, with his withdrawal from the clay-court Major, Kyrgios’ return to the French Open will have to be postponed once again.
