Stefanos Tsitsipas wrapped up a marathon day at the Foro Italico in the early hours of Wednesday morning, securing his spot in the quarter-finals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 victory over the local favorite Lorenzo Musetti.
When the day began on Tuesday in Rome, three Italian singles players still remained in the tournament. However, by the end of the grueling day, Tsitsipas had eliminated two of them, adding to his earlier straight-sets win against Lorenzo Sonego. The match against Musetti didn’t even start until close to midnight, making it a truly demanding day for the fifth-seeded Greek.
Reflecting on the demanding schedule, Tsitsipas commented in his on-court interview, “It was a jam-packed day, I must say. I spent the entire day at the courts. Despite the rain causing some disruptions, I’m glad the day concluded on a positive note.” He continued, “I gave it my all out there tonight, well technically, morning now! It has been a fantastic experience to play this way, but now I need to catch some sleep and recharge. I believe tomorrow is a day off, so I’ll focus on regaining my energy and preparing for the next challenge ahead.”
Tsitsipas displayed remarkable resilience throughout the day, overcoming tough opponents and the late-night conditions to progress in the tournament. With his sights set on further success, he understands the importance of resting and recuperating before his next match, knowing that a well-rested mind and body are vital for maintaining his high level of play.
