Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari managed to advance to the semifinals of the WTA finals tournament at Fort Worth, Texas, after she defeated Belarussian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka in two sets – 6:2, 6:4.
She fought off Sabalenka after 97 minutes of play. In the first set, Sakkari converted two break points, and she also started off the second set by converting two break points, which gave her a commanding lead of 3:0.
Sabalenka managed to come back to 3:3, but afterward, Sakkari converted another break point in the ninth game. In the last round of the tournament, Sakkari will face American tennis player Jessica Pegula.
