Men’s world number one Carlos Alcaraz continued his impressive run at the Miami Open, booking his place in the semi-finals with a comfortable straight-sets victory over Taylor Fritz. The 19-year-old Spaniard, who is also the reigning Indian Wells champion, was at his best once again to dispatch Fritz 6-4 6-4 in just under 80 minutes.
Alcaraz’s win puts him one step closer to claiming back-to-back Miami Open titles, and he will now face Italian 10th seed Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals. With both players in excellent form, their match promises to be a closely-fought encounter that could go either way.
In the other semi-final, Daniil Medvedev will meet his good friend Karen Khachanov in an all-Russian clash. Both players enjoyed straight-sets victories in their quarterfinal matches, with Medvedev defeating Christopher Eubanks and Khachanov beating Francisco Cerundolo.
Medvedev, who has won three of his last four tournaments, is the heavy favorite to advance to the final, but Khachanov is a dangerous opponent who should not be underestimated.
