Carlos Alcaraz’s meteoric rise in the tennis world continued as he produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open.
After securing his first ATP Tour title at the Barcelona Open last week, the 19-year-old Spaniard showed no signs of slowing down as he took the opening set with a single break in the seventh game against 10th seed Khachanov.
However, things looked bleak for Alcaraz in the second set as he found himself 5-2 down.
But Alcaraz’s never-say-die attitude and unyielding spirit shone through as he mounted a stunning fightback to reel off the next five games, securing a 6-4 7-5 win in the process. With this victory, the defending champion and tournament’s top seed Alcaraz has now booked his place in the semifinals, where he will face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Felix Auger-Aliassime.
