Top-seeded Jessica Pegula and past champion Madison Keys advanced to the third round of the Charleston Open with ease on Wednesday.
Pegula, who is currently ranked third in the world, breezed past Anna Blinkova of Russia in less than 65 minutes with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Meanwhile, Keys, the 2019 champion of this tournament, defeated Hailey Baptiste with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in just 69 minutes.
Pegula mentioned that the Credit One Tennis Center in Charleston feels like a familiar venue to her as she used to train at the facility when she was growing up on Hilton Head Island, which is about two hours away from Charleston. With her impressive performance in the second round, Pegula looks poised to make a deep run in the tournament.
Keys, who has already won this tournament once before, also seems to be in excellent form, as she won her second-round match convincingly. It will be exciting to see how these top players perform in the upcoming rounds of the Charleston Open.
