Jiri Lehecka, a 21-year-old Czech player, started his maiden Miami Open campaign with a convincing win over Federico Coria in just over an hour. Lehecka, who reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open earlier this year and recently secured his first ATP
Masters 1000 main draw victory at Indian Wells, won 6-3 6-4. In the next round, the world number 44 will face 18th seed Lorenzo Musettin, whom he defeated in their only previous encounter in Rotterdam last year.
Meanwhile, Adrian Mannarino fought back from an early setback against Chinese wildcard Shang Juncheng to secure a victory and set up a clash with 32nd seed Ben Shelton. Cristian Garin of Chile, who reached the fourth round as a qualifier in Indian Wells, continued his good form with a hard-fought win over Marcos Giron.
Other winners in the early rounds include lucky loser Aleksandar Kovacevic, Quentin Halys, and Roberto Carballes Baena, who will face fourth seed Daniil Medvedev in the next round after his opponent, Bernabe Zapata Miralles, was forced to retire.
