Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has made history by becoming the first player, male or female, to reach 25 tour-level wins this year.
Medvedev achieved this feat after a dominant performance in his opening match at the Miami Open, defeating Roberto Carballes Baena 6-1, 6-2. The world number two finished the match with 18 winners and only 13 unforced errors. He was never broken and faced just one break point throughout the match.
Medvedev’s outstanding record this year now stands at 25-3, with a 5-2 record during the Australian season and an impressive 20-1 since then. His only loss in the last month and a half came in the Indian Wells final, where he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz.
The Russian’s impressive form this year has firmly cemented his place as one of the top players on the tour and will no doubt make him a tough opponent for any player he faces in the Miami Open.
