Yoshihito Nishioka managed to eliminate Mackenzie McDonald, the player who eliminated Rafael Nadal in the previous round of the Australian Open.
Nishioka advanced to the round of 16 after beating McDonald in three sets – 7:6, 6:3, and 6:2. The game was 140 minutes long, and the Japanese player lived up to the role of a favorite he was given before the match kicked off.
Mackenzie also had some issues with the injury, and he was not able to match up with Nishioka the way he wanted. Yoshihito will face Karen Khachanov in the round of sixteen, who was able to defeat Frances Tiafoe in four sets – 6:3, 6:4, 3:6, and 7:6.
