Mirra Andreeva, the 15-year-old tennis prodigy from Russia, has stunned the world of tennis once again by reaching the third round of the Madrid Open. Andreeva, who defeated 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez in the first round, secured another impressive victory over world No.14 Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets.
Despite losing her serve early in the first set, Andreeva showed great resilience to break back and level the scores. Although she missed a few opportunities to take control of the set, she eventually won the tie-break and then wrapped up the match with a solid performance in the second set. Andreeva will now face Poland’s Magda Linette in the next round, as she continues her remarkable rise in the tennis world.
Mirra Andreeva’s incredible run at the Madrid Open shows no signs of slowing down, as the young Russian tennis star continues to defy expectations. Speaking after her win over Beatriz Haddad Maia, Andreeva admitted that she was surprised to reach the third round, but also felt that her opponents were not necessarily playing at a higher level than her.
She acknowledged the mental aspect of the game, but also expressed confidence in her own abilities. Andreeva’s self-belief has certainly been justified so far, as she has beaten two highly ranked players in her first two matches.
Her next opponent, Magda Linette, will provide another tough test, but Andreeva has shown that she is more than capable of rising to the occasion.
