World number one Iga Swiatek successfully defended her title at the WTA tournament in Doha on Saturday after defeating Jessica Pegula convincingly in straight sets – 6:3 and 6:0.
This was the Polish star’s first WTA title of the year, making it twelve total for her career. She lost only five games on the road to the title and wrote new pages in the history book of the white sport.
“I’m really happy that I’ve found more balance compared to how I felt at the beginning of the season,” she said after the win. “I think that this title will give me a lot of confidence, but I still want to continue working step by step. I’m really happy that I was able to win today,” she added.
